It happened!

I finally clawed my way out from under a never-ending mountain of messages, bug fixes, hotfixes, next-build prep, and all the real-life things that got sidelined during crunch. After that, we took a well-deserved (and very belated) winter break!

Now, I actually had some time to sit down and write another update! xD This draft has been sitting around for a while - it was originally meant to be our Happy New Year post.

I hope everyone had a great start to 2025!

We’re currently at Hotfix 2, and a third (and hopefully final!) hotfix is on the way to tackle the last remaining issues. Stay tuned!

Wrapping up 2024

This past release cycle was one of the most challenging we’ve ever faced - not just in terms of work, but real life threw more than a few curveballs our way. It definitely had us by the orbs for a good while and not in the fun way!

Rest assured, the longer cycle wasn’t intentional or planned - it was just one of those times where life had other ideas.

But despite the hurdles and hardships, we still managed to accomplish a lot!

Slithering into 2025: Year of the Snake!

It’s officially the Year of the Snake, so here’s a concept from the early days of Kincaid - back when we were brainstorming possible species to include.

With Planet 3’s roster currently in the concepting stage, maybe it’s time for this idea to shed its old skin and emerge into the world of Kincaid… ;3 (Yes, we're probably going to have a snake enemy, but I would like to revisit its design and play around with a couple of ideas ^w^)

Plans going forward

With this and the upcoming builds, we want to shift our focus toward more frequent updates - at least until we’ve caught up on all the content that’s finished or nearly finished.

We also plan for each new build to include new levels, even if they aren’t fully decorated yet or don’t have the final tilesets and art assets.

To make this work, we’ve set up a system where we prioritize gameplay first - starting with greyboxing and minimal decorations. Once a level plays well, we’ll gradually refine the polish over time.

So, expect things to look a little rough here and there-some enemies might be missing animations, and certain frames might still be uncolored or unfinished. But this approach ensures we can get new content into your hands faster while refining it along the way!

Upcoming Build

Here's a shortlist of the main things you can expect in the next build:

  • New NPC-focused CG scene and story
  • New minor enemy types for Cisterns
  • Further flesh out Cisterns area (Slime Sanctuary sub-area)
  • Some preliminary charms hidden in the world for you to find!

  • Playtesting & Bugfixing
  • Continued creating and decorating Cistern area rooms
  • Quest log + Map markers
  • Designing and writing project briefs for new music, illustrations and environment art

The warm reception of our latest release and all the wonderful messages we received truly lifted our spirits during a difficult time. Seeing you all enjoy Kincaid so much was the dopamine boost we needed more than ever.

Just a few years ago, I never imagined that making video games could become my career. It still feels surreal. There aren’t enough words to express just how deeply grateful I am to each and every one of you. Your encouragement means the world to us.

As my way of saying thanks, I’ll keep pushing my animation skills further and further to make Kincaid the best game it can be for you! ^w^

God bless your work! I know life can be hard but thank you for your perseverance and effort! Can say, this will be one of my fav platformers in general once complete :D.

Well that's interesting. But i had some thoughts bout kincaid. Is scene between kobold and tigert is gonna be added or not? Also scene between flight kobold whose friend we must find?
